White work pickups and service trucks parked outside an industrial building

Quick answer

Most Chino fleets serve other businesses: box trucks moving product out of distribution buildings, service trucks keeping those buildings running and contractors finishing new homes. One commercial auto policy can carry all of it from a $1 million combined single limit, with national carriers that often rate fenced industrial yards and take-home trucks differently.

01Why Chino businesses buy commercial auto

Chino's own General Plan names transportation and warehousing, manufacturing and wholesale trade among the sectors that anchor its economy and counts more than 53 million square feet of existing industrial space, with newer warehouse and distribution buildings concentrated near Chino Airport. The plan's jobs table shows transportation and warehousing employment in Chino rising from 1,645 in 2002 to 6,774 in 2022. Manufacturing still matters, too: The plan notes that it makes up a notably higher share of local jobs than elsewhere in the county, and a manufacturer that runs its own trucks to customers' docks is a business-to-business fleet that generally belongs on a commercial policy even with one truck.

The Census Bureau's ZIP Code Business Patterns put about 1,141 transportation and warehousing, wholesale and repair businesses at a Chino postal address: roughly 579 wholesalers, 457 transportation and warehousing firms and 105 repair shops. Against the 95,946 residents the California Department of Finance estimated for January 2026, that works out to nearly 12 such businesses per 1,000 people, a higher ratio than Ontario's. The Department also counted 29,983 housing units, up 1.44%, and about 263 construction businesses share the same postal addresses.

Much of that activity rides on box trucks under 26,001 lbs, service bodies and pickups, and the commercial auto policy that covers a mixed fleet typically rates each one on its own use and garaging.

03Driving and garaging in Chino

SR-60 runs across Chino's north side and SR-71 along its west side, linking the city to Pomona and the I-10 to the north and to Corona and SR-91 to the south. Euclid Avenue, which is SR-83, is the main north–south street; Central Avenue carries traffic to SR-60; and Riverside Drive, Chino Avenue, Edison Avenue, Kimball Avenue and Pine Avenue run east toward Ontario and the I-15. Chino Airport sits in the southeast part of the city, east of Euclid Avenue and south of Merrill Avenue.

The General Plan describes Chino Airport as a general aviation field with three runways, flight schools, aircraft maintenance shops and aircraft storage, so service trucks also work hangar rows and airport roads, and contracts there may set their own insurance terms for vendors' vehicles.

Distribution fleets here usually park inside fenced industrial lots with their own docks, which underwriters tend to like, but those lots also hold trailers and box trucks that sit for a weekend with nobody on site. Contractors and service companies more often send pickups and vans home with employees in Chino Hills, Ontario, Eastvale and Pomona, and each of those is usually rated at the driver's address.

Short hops make up much of the driving: A box truck might make several stops a day within a few miles, backing into a dock at most of them. A spotter or backup-camera rule and a written fleet safety program speak directly to that pattern, and the Inland Empire metro page covers the region's freeways.

04Truck and trailer theft in Chino

Theft is the loss Chino fleets plan around: The CHP counted 1,802 commercial trucks and 7,331 trailers stolen in California in 2025, and commercial truck thefts fell only 5.06% while total vehicle thefts dropped 24.3%. Our breakdown of vehicle and trailer theft risk in the Inland Empire covers lot security and the tools auto coverage usually doesn't pay for.

A stolen truck is typically a comprehensive claim, which means a unit needs physical damage coverage to be protected. The CHP reports 80.0% of stolen commercial trucks recovered, and a recovered truck can still come back damaged.

Chino commercial auto questions

Do you insure box trucks moving product out of Chino distribution buildings?
Yes, on business-to-business routes. When the product you haul is a customer's rather than yours, ask about cargo coverage for goods you haul for others.
Our trailers sit in the yard all weekend. What do underwriters want to see?
Typically a fenced, lit lot, kingpin or hitch locks, wheel locks and GPS trackers on the units most likely to be taken. List every trailer with its own value on the schedule.
We build cabinets in Chino and carry them to job sites. Is the load covered by auto?
Not usually. The truck is auto; cabinets you own in transit are typically insured on an inland marine or property policy, placed separately.
Can drivers who live in Chino Hills take company vans home?
In most cases, yes. List each van at the driver's address, write down whether personal use is allowed and keep every driver's MVR current.
Does a manufacturer with one delivery truck need commercial auto?
Usually, yes. A truck titled to the business or used mainly for it belongs on a commercial policy, and we write single trucks as well as fleets up to 50.
