SR-14, the Antelope Valley Freeway, runs north–south through the west side of Lancaster, south through Palmdale and over the Soledad Pass to Santa Clarita and north toward Rosamond and Mojave. SR-138 follows Avenue D across the north end and heads west toward the I-5 near Gorman. A grid of lettered avenues, from Avenue H to Avenue M (Columbia Way), and numbered streets such as 10th, 20th and 50th Street West carry local traffic, with Sierra Highway running beside the freeway.
Distance tends to come first in the pricing. A Lancaster crew working in Santa Clarita or the San Fernando Valley crosses the Soledad Pass twice a day, and work out in the valley means long, straight rural roads where fatigue and passing on two-lane stretches can cause the most serious crashes. Trucks usually sleep on residential lots or in open yards, so trailer locks and trackers belong on the application.
Heat is the other constant. Summer days in the valley are hard on tires, batteries and cooling systems, and a breakdown on a rural avenue can mean a long wait for a tow, so a written breakdown plan, with who to call and what each truck carries for a long wait, belongs in the driver handbook.
Our Antelope Valley and Victor Valley truck insurance page covers the wider region, and fleets of 11 to 25 vehicles explains how carriers tend to underwrite a contractor past ten trucks.
