The I-15 runs along Hesperia's west side, with interchanges at Main Street and Ranchero Road, and Bear Valley Road leads north into Victorville and Apple Valley. South of town the I-15 drops into the Cajon Pass, where SR-138 branches off west toward Phelan and Palmdale and east toward Silverwood Lake. Main Street, Ranchero Road, Hesperia Road, Seventh Avenue, Escondido Avenue and Rock Springs Road carry local traffic, many of them long, straight stretches where speeds creep up.
Garaging is mostly on private property: pickups and trailers on large residential lots, and equipment yards on industrial land near the I-15. Open lots make a trailer easy to hook up and drive off, so hitch locks, wheel locks and GPS trackers are worth listing on the application. And because so many Hesperia crews work below the pass, radius and daily mileage come up early in most quotes.
Winter is the other season to plan for. Snow can reach the Cajon summit and the roads toward the mountains, and a crew that leaves Hesperia in the dark on a stormy morning should check conditions and closures before it commits to the pass.
